ENTERPRISE — The ballot measure calling on the Wallowa County Board of Commissioners to consider the county’s interest in possibly becoming a part of Idaho has prompted the measure’s supporters and its opponents to plan rallies Friday, May 12.

The Greater Idaho Movement, which supports ballot measure 32-007, plans a rally across the street from the Wallowa County Courthouse from 5-6 p.m. Organizers have stated that they need to stay at least 100 feet away from the courthouse doors, as it is a voting site.

Opponents of 32-007, which has a “Say No to Idaho” page on Facebook, plan a picnic rally at the City Park at 210 Greenwood St. from 5-7 p.m.

Enterprise Police Chief Kevin McQuead said Thursday that his department is aware of the opposing rallies and has no specific plans for action related to them.

“We are aware that there are plans for rallies or demonstrations in support and in opposition,” he said. “We’re going to let them peacefully do what they have a right to do. They can do their thing as long as they’re peaceful.”

The Greater Idaho website said that a film crew from Agence France-Presse, a French news outlet, plans to be on hand to cover the opposing rallies.
