Letter: Three new angles on Greater Idaho
Published 6:00 am Wednesday, April 19, 2023
I’ve been watching and listening to the arguments for Greater Idaho and frankly, they’re confusing. Perhaps I can help out: Here’s at least three things that have been missed.
Math skills. Somewhere I’ve heard that solving difficult math problems can really help the aging brain. What an opportunity!
Being a lifetime Oregonian, I rarely have to calculate sales tax. Not anymore! With every purchase I’ll now have to times by zero point eight carry the three and add what again?
Let’s not forget our shared history. Even if half of my ancestors came across on the Oregon Trail, Idaho has one less letter and that is a time savings. The Idaho Trail doesn’t quite ring, but we’ll get used to it. Plus, I’m really looking forward to reenacting history, experiencing real Oregon Trail ruts while driving Idaho’s highways.
And then there’s highway safety. Whatever Tom McCall was thinking back in the ’70s, it wasn’t safety. With no deposit on cans, soon our highways will be safely lit by the reflection of all those throwaways.
Just like Idaho.
