ENTERPRISE — More than 40 candidates have filed for election on Tuesday, May 16 for positions on local boards that control everything from schools to fire districts, to cemeteries to health care in Wallowa County.

Most of the races are uncontested, and a few even had no candidates file. The filing deadline was Thursday, March 16, county Clerk Sandy Lathrop reported.

Contested races will be held for Enterprise, Joseph and Wallowa school boards and the three vacancies on the Wallowa County Health Care District Board.

No one filed for the Troy School District Board or one of the two vacancies on the Wallowa Cemetery District Board.

The ballot also will include a measure to renew the county’s weed levy and a Greater Idaho measure to require Wallowa County commissioners to twice annually discuss the proposal to redraw the state border so that certain Eastern Oregon counties, including Wallowa, would be absorbed by Idaho.
