Wallowa Valley sweeps past Umatilla

The Wallowa Valley baseball team continued its homestand with two easy victories Wednesday, May 4, shutting down Umatilla in a Special District 5 doubleheader, 10-0 and 10-2.

Drew Beachy tossed five shutout innings in the opener, allowing just three hits and striking out six batters.

Caden Fent helped power the offense with three RBIs, including a two-run single during a four-run second. Jaxon Grover had three hits, scored three times and drove in a run, and Spencer Decker had two hits, scored twice and drove in two runs. Kylar McQuead and Jesse Larison both added a pair of runs.

In the nightcap, McQuead drove in three runs, Grover had four more hits and Decker went 3-for-4 as the Eagles coasted to a second win for the sweep.

Grover scored three times in the win, and both Decker and Fent scored two runs. As a team, the Eagles finished with 14 hits.

Wallowa Valley (11-8 overall, 6-4 SD5) traveled to Athena to play Weston-McEwen on May 10, then wraps up the regular season May 13 at home against Nyssa.
