Wallowa Valley posts two more shutouts

Add two more shutout victories for the Wallowa Valley softball team.
Sophie Moeller homered and Liz Rowley tossed a one-hit shutout as the Outlaws blanked Umatilla, 11-0, in the opener of a Friday, May 6 doubleheader. In the nightcap, Rilyn Kirkland went deep and Aimee Meyers threw a three-hit shutout in a 12-0 victory. Both games were five-inning wins.

In the first game, Rowley struck out 10 batters, walked one, gave up a hit and hit two batters. At the plate, she had two hits and drove in two runs. Alex Rowley had an identical line with two hits and two RBIs.
Moeller’s home run was part of a 3-for-4 game, one in which she drove in three runs and scored twice. Meyers and Sydney Hopkins also scored twice.
In the second game, Meyers struck out six batters on the way to her shutout. Kirkland had two hits, drove in three runs and scored twice. Cooper Nave, Abby Straight and Hopkins both added two RBIs. And Moeller scored three times.
With the two wins, Wallowa Valley secured second place in Special District 2. It was also the seventh and eighth shutouts of the season for the Outlaws.
Wallowa Valley (16-6 overall, 8-2 SD2) wraps up the regular season at home May 13 against Nyssa.
