ENTERPRISE — Wallowa County had one of its highest one-day totals of COVID-19 cases during the pandemic reported on Tuesday, Jan. 11.

The Oregon Health Authority reported 19 cases in Wallowa County among more than 8,000 in the state on Jan. 11, bringing the county total to 848. Already, there have been more than 50 cases reported in the county this month. 

There have been no new deaths reported, with the number staying at 13. 

Hospitalizations due to COVID have increased statewide, but most of the increase is in Region 1, which encompasses much of the Northwestern portion of the state. It increased from 121 on Dec. 22 to 365 on Jan. 11 — closing in on delta-spike highs. In Region 9, which includes most of Northeastern Oregon, the number is at 14 as of Jan. 11, which is about one-third of the pandemic peak of 43 in early October. 

Wallowa County continues to be in about the middle of the state in terms of vaccination rate. Currently, 71.1% of residents 18 and older have at least one shot, while 66.4% have received a full series and 36% have received a booster. 

Currently, 79.3% of residents 65 and older have received at least one shot, as have 28.3% of the two youngest demographics, those 5-17.
