Eleven new COVID-19 cases in Wallowa County as it nears 300

Wallowa County had 11 more reported COVID-19 cases over the weekend, according to the Oregon Health Authority in its latest update Monday, Aug. 16. The total since the start of the pandemic is now at 297. 

It’s the highest reported total in the county during the pandemic, though it comes over a three-day period. To date, still the highest known one-day total is the 10 cases reported on July 30. 

There were no new reported fatalities in the county, and to date there still have been six total since the start of the pandemic last March.

Oregon reported 4,396 cases of COVID-19 and had 14 new deaths.

Hospitalizations continue to be at record totals, with OHA reporting 752 hospitalizations due to COVID-19 as of Monday morning, though in Region 9, hospitalizations have dropped from record-high levels. After there were 28 reported hospitalizations Friday, there were 16 in the region — which includes Wallowa County — on Monday.

Countywide, the vaccination rate reached 50% of all residents, OHA data showed Monday, and 59.9% of all residents 18 and older.
