Dorothy Meyer

April 3, 1922 – Oct. 14, 2018

Dorothy Meyer –– known as “mom” to most people that she met –– passed away at age 96 at Samaritan Pacific Community Hospital in Newport, Ore.

Dorothy was born to George and Cora (Shroll) Richards in Enterprise. She graduated with Enterprise High School Class of 1940.

She went on to complete secretarial training returning to Enterprise to work in her father’s law office. During WWII, she worked at the Pendleton Airbase and there she met and married Carl S. Meyer who was stationed there in 1943.

After the war they returned to Enterprise where they raised their family and she once again worked in her father’s law office.

Dorothy moved to Newport in 1988 after the passing of her husband. She always said she was so lucky to have lived in the two most beautiful places in Oregon –– Wallowa County and the Oregon Coast.

Dorothy was an avid reader, loved bowling, traveling, sewing, knitting, counted cross stitch, painting, the outdoors (especially mushroom hunting and picking huckleberries) and her family.

Dorothy is preceded in death by both of her parents, her husband Carl and son Max.

She is survived by her three daughters Kathleen, Marjie and Karen and son Rick, four grandchildren, four great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren.

Respecting their wishes she and Carl will be celebrated in a private family graveside gathering in the spring of 2019 with interment at the Enterprise Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that you show a “Random Act of Kindness” today, hug a loved one a bit closer and say “I love you” just one more time.
