Course was popping on July 4

Here’s the Scoop.
“On Wednesday, the Fourth of July holiday, golf traffic at Alpine Meadows was like a picnic in the park compared to Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Those three days were like someone had lit a firecracker under every golfer in the county,” said Cheryl Kooch, clubhouse manager. “We were swamped, and that’s a good thing.

“The Elgin boys, who came to golf on Saturday, made a big difference in our day too,” Kooch added. “They were out to enjoy a little prerelaxation before the Elgin Stampede this coming weekend, and they admitted a slight procrastination in picking up their hay bales.”
Jerry Hook, Alpine board president, would like to remind members and nonmembers alike of the following: We have a tentative (need 40 entries) AMGC Invite Tournament this weekend, the Eastside Seniors, Monday, July 16 and Alpine Meadows’s Enterprise/Joseph Lions Club Golf Tournament set for Saturday and Sunday, July 21-22.
If you are a low handicap golfer, or a medium to high handicapper, tournaments offer a chance to win money, help a good cause and experience competitive fun. Entry forms are at clubhouse or online.”
The front fence, damaged earlier this spring when a tree crashed, looks brand new after volunteer Chuck Haines worked his magic. He had some rearranging to do with the wire mesh, but with James Johnson of Joseph Hardware offering Alpine Meadows fence materials at cost, plus the $50 from Tuesday Ladies along with smaller donations, Haines was able to finish the project. He also repaired the entry gate. Thank you.

Terry Lamb, who tallies Thursday’s scorecards, laments hole 9/18 calling it “ferocious” ─ that’s not what the ladies call it ─ giving golfers of all abilities nightmares, giving up a 10, and 3 triple bogies this past week. He can be overheard muttering … focus, focus, focus!
