Youth drama club forming

The Josephy Center for Arts and Culture is launching a drama club for all high school students in Wallowa County for the spring semester.

Students interested should attend the initial meeting 5 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16 at Josephy Center in Joseph.

The program will be led by Morgan Green, drama teacher at the Josephy Center, who will be teaching students how to create a production and directing a play that will be chosen by the students. Plays on the shortlist to be chosen include “You Can’t Take it With You,” “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” and “Alice in Wonderland.”

The program is free and will be limited to eighth-graders to seniors. The club will rehearse up to three times a week leading up to a performance in April. Exact rehearsal times and performance date are to be determined.

Grange plans cribbage session

Would you like to learn how to play cribbage? Would you like to teach a willing group of Wallowa County residents how to play?

Hurricane Creek Grange is inviting all interested in learning to play cribbage to the grange hall at 92930 Airport Road in Joseph 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 21. Bring a cribbage board and cards if you have them. The Grange has six sets to start off with. No charge, just good community fun.

Bank lists 2017 fund recipients

Community Bank’s annual charity drive concluded Dec. 20. The program is an effort to collect donations in branches to benefit charities in the same area. The bank matches donations at 50 cents on each dollar, with a max match amount of $500 per branch location. A grand total of $27,465 in donations and bank matches were dispersed to charities:

• Community Connection Food Bank –– $6,984.

• Elgin Food Bank –– $6,595.

• Milton-Freewater City Light and Power Energy Assistance Program through the Salvation Army –– $3,901.

• Wallowa Food Bank –– $1,893.

• Neighborhood Center Food Bank (Heppner) –– $1,703.

• Helping Hands Rescue (Clarkston, Wash.) –– $1,642.

• Baker City Food Banks –– $1,500.

• Hermiston Warming Station –– $1,145.

• Center at the Park, Walla Walla’s Senior Center –– $550.

• Children’s Museum of Eastern Oregon (Pendleton) –– $549.

• Triple B Foundation and Kids Club (La Grande) –– $500 each.

Ducks Unlimited fundraiser set

Wallowa County Ducks Unlimited Chapter will hold its annual banquet and auction 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, at Cloverleaf Hall on the campus of Wallowa County Fairgrounds. Dinner is served at 6:30 p.m. and the auction is at 7:30 p.m.

Ducks Unlimited is the world’s leader in wetlands and waterfowl conservation.

Tickets range from $55 for an individual if purchased prior to Jan. 27 or $70 for a couple. Children 11-17 pay $20. A variety of sponsorship levels are also available.

Broomball event coming Jan. 20

Rooted Youth ministry will host a co-ed broomball event for teens and young adults (middle and high school) students 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 20, at the Wallowa Valley Community Ice Rink in Enterprise.

Helmets are strongly encouraged. Bring a wood-handled broom. No ice skates.

Rooted Youth offers alternative resources to augment Wallowa County church youth group programs for their teens.

Parent classes will begin Jan. 17

A series of 10 classes designed to help parents with raising children will begin 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 17, at Building Healthy Families, 207 NW Park St., Enterprise.

The evening begins with a free dinner followed by the class. Childcare is available.

Making Parenting a Pleasure is an opportunity to support parents with strategies around communication, challenging behavior, stress management and more.

Aviation banquet planned at lodge

Wallowa County Pilots Association will host its 2018 Wallowa County Aviation Banquet 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 20 at Wallowa Lake Lodge.

Reports from Chief Joseph Flyers and Northeast Oregon Aviation Foundation will be heard.
