New performers in lineup for Juniper Jam

David Luning will bring his bluesy-rock-Americana sound from California to Juniper Jam for the first time Saturday, Sept. 2, at Wallowa County Fairgrounds in Enterprise.

He is one of a full line-up of musicians expected to be on hand for nonstop music on two performance stages during the ninth-annual event beginning 1 p.m.

Another first-timer at the festival will be Brad Parsons Band,a Portland-based singer-songwriter with a genre-bending blend of psychedelic rock and Americana, according to Janis Carper, festival director and executive director of the sponsoring Wallowa Valley Music Alliance.

Other performances include Run On Sentence, led by songwriter Dustin Hamman; Bigfoot Mojo, featuring upright bassist Belinda Underwood and national mandolin champion Josiah Payne; Catskills, a rock band from La Grande featuring songwriter Gregory Rawlins; Alexa Wiley & the Wilderness and Jezebel’s Mother, featuring local songwriters Janis Carper and Carolyn Lochert with their “rootsy-bluesy-lively-lovely” brand of Americana.

Songwriting workshop on the agenda

Beth Wood will be performing at Juniper Jam 2017 and will also teach a songwriting workshop as part of the festival 10 a.m. Saturday at Fishtrap House, 400 E. Grant Street, Enterprise.

Wood will meet with aspiring and experienced songwriters to dig into the craft. She will begin with writing exercises to encourage creativity and then explore how words lend themselves to melodies and rhythms.
