The winners have been chosen in the recently concluded ninth annual Wallowa County Digital Photo Contest, jointly sponsored by the Wallowa Valley Photo Club and the Wallowa County Chieftain.

The 2017 contest drew a total 193 submissions — including 180 adult division entries and 13 student entries (from photographers ages 17 and younger).

Judges from the Wallowa Valley Photo Club determined one set of winners — first through third places plus an honorable mention in both the Adult and Student divisions — and the public cast votes online at the Chieftain’s website to pick first- through third-place honorees, Student and Adult, to be listed as People’s Choice.

In the adult contest, the top prize from the judges went to Tom Nordtvedt, a teacher at Wallowa High School. The People’s Choice winner in the adult contest went to Anna Hayes of Eugene, who describes herself as a “frequent vacationer” and “perpetual admirer”.

In the student contest, it was nearly a clean sweep for Alicia Wight of Joseph who won both the Judges’ Choice and People’s Choice awards for her photograph “Love Knows No Age”. Wight did sweep the People’s Choice award, first through third, with her photographs.

Prizes from the photo club are $40 to each first-place winner, $20 for second place and $10 for third. Honorable mentions don’t include cash awards. You can view all the entries online at http://www.wallowa.com/photocontest.

First Place: “Raccoon” by Tom Nordtvedt of Wallowa, a teacher at Wallowa High School.

Second Place: “On the Way to Troy” by Bernice Bernotat of Joseph, a part-year resident during the summer months, July through September.

Third Place: “Bee” by Jim Keefer of Joseph.

Honorable mention: “Let’s Put This One Out!” by Chuck Anderson of Joseph.

First Place: “Horse” by Anna Hayes of Eugene a frequent vacationer, perpetual admirer and regular visitor to the county.

Second Place: “For the Love of Highlands” by Jen Cameron of Enterprise.

Third Place: “Tucker James” by Katrina Leith of Enterprise who was born in the county and moved back two years ago.

First Place: “Love Knows No Age” by Alicia Wight of Joseph.

Second Place: “Worn by Happiness” by Andrew Matthews of Joseph.

Third Place: “The Mind’s Eye” by Alicia Wight of Joseph.
