John L. Berge passed away Dec. 21 in Coos Bay, Ore. He was born March 23, 1931, in Miles City, Mont., to Fred and Amanda Bailey Berge.

He attended school in Wallowa and graduated from Wallowa High School in 1949. He married Frances A. Shelby on May 28, 1955, at Myrtle Creek.

He had 60 years of married life with many exciting events. He became a Christian later in life and had a myriad of church families for love and support along with his family and other friends.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Frances; children David L. and Carol Berge in Sitka, Alaska, Susan A. and Howie Donley in Bandon, Ore., Joan M. Berge in Sitka, Nancy E. Berge in Springfield, Ore., and Bill R. and Danon Berge in Anchorage; siblings Frances, Lily, Ted and Judy; and seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by sister Annaline, brother Harry, brother Leo and sister Berniece.
