Wallowa's Travis Haga prepares to haul in a pass from quarterback Koby Frye in the second half.

The Wallowa Cougars rolled into the 1A state football quarterfinals by steamrolling the 14th-ranked Triad Timberwolves 54-20 in a first-round home game on Saturday.

After a close first quarter that left the Cougars leading 8-6, Wallowa pulled away and racked up 467 yards offense. The Cougars scored on all but one second-half possession.

Wallowa quarterback Koby Frye completed 3 of 7 passes for 100 yards and two touchdowns, while Noah Allen completed all three of his pass attempts for 70 yards and one touchdown.

Allen also led the Cougars with 133 rushing yards on 12 carries and scored three TDs on the ground. Patrick Ritthaler rushed for 87 yards on seven carries and scored twice.

Travis Haga led the team in receiving, snagging three passes for 100 yards and two touchdowns, while Gus Ramsden hauled in two passes for 41 yards and a score.

Defensively, Haga and Cole Hafer led the Cougs with four tackles each. Hafer also had a sack and a fumble recovery. Wallowa shut down the Timberwolves’ aerial attack, snagging four interceptions — Allen hauled in two on the day.

Cougars coach Matt Brockamp was pleased with the results.

“We executed well and played well,” Brockamp said. “We gave up a couple of big plays in the first half, but we relaxed and got kids to play over-the-top football.”

The No. 3-ranked Cougars (7-2) will host a quarterfinal game against No. 6-ranked Perrydale (9-0) of the Casco League at noon Saturday, Nov. 14. The Pirates advanced out of the first round with a 32-6 win over No. 11 Pine Eagle on Saturday.

“We’re a physical ball team. We’re excited to be where we’re at and the kids played great. Right now, we’re just focusing on Perrydale for next week,” Brockamp said.
