Eleanor L. Coles, 85, of La Grande passed away at a local care facility Nov. 4, 2015. A graveside service will be held at North Powder Cemetery at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14.Please join the family after the service for refreshments at the Wolf Creek Grange, 215 E Street, North Powder.

Eleanor was born June 13, 1930 in Klamath Falls, Ore., to John & Verna (Ashley) Beck. As a youngster, her family lived in Fossil, John Day and Boardman before they settled in Telocaset. Eleanor attended Union High School. After graduating, she married her high school sweetheart, Norvin M. Coles.

Eleanor and Norvin made homes in Union and La Grande before purchasing a farm in Cove, where they resided until Norvin’s death in 2010. Eleanor was very active in PTA and activities at her children’s schools. Eleanor was a member of Eastern Star, Daughters of the Nile. She also enjoyed membership with the Cove Sportsman Club and New Bridge Grange.

Eleanor is survived by her children, Norvin, Jr. (Skip) of Baker City, Karen of La Grande, and James of Mission, Kansas; sister Joyce Lanigan of Black Mountain, N.C.; brothers, Robert Beck (Sharon) of Alicel, Ore., and Jack Beck (Margie) of Montrose, Colo.; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents, John and Verna; brother Bill Beck; infant son Richard and step-father Robert Wheeler.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Shriner’s Hospital in care of Loveland Funeral Chapel, 1508 4th St., La Grande, OR, 97850.
