Kinney Lake closed for fish kill

Starting on Monday, Sept. 28, the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife will begin chemically treating up to 10 Northeast Oregon ponds in order to remove illegally introduced fish that are harming trout fisheries.
The tentative treatment dates for the 10 ponds are: Luger Pond (Union County), Sept. 28; Kinney Lake (Wallowa Co.), Oct. 5; Boundary, Peach, (Union Co.) and Keyhole, Granite Meadows, Goldfish, Yellowjacket and Windy Springs ponds (Umatilla Co), Oct. 7-9; and Balm Creek Reservoir (Baker Co.), Oct. 15

These ponds will be closed to the public during treatment and for up to four weeks afterwards for detoxification. These dates are tentative and may be changed if needed. During treatments each pond will be clearly posted and access restricted.
All ponds are scheduled to be re-stocked with rainbow trout in spring 2016.
