Quilters honor WWII veteran

In all, approximately 20 members of the Guild are active in a long-term project that provides quilts to Wallowa County veterans. Currently the effort is focused on World War II veterans. Lay, who served in the U.S. Navy from 1942 to 1946, was awarded a Purple Heart after being wounded during the invasion of Peleliu Island in the western Pacific which began Sept,. 15, 1944.
