Joseph track and field coach John Roberts is pleased with the way his young track team is performing so far this season. The Joseph women’s squad racked up 20 points during an April 11 outing at the Dick Horyna Invitational in Stanfield on a day Roberts described as cool and windy.

Isabelle Tingelstad led the way for Joseph, placing first in the 1500 meters with a time of 5:21.51. “Without the wind going against her, she’d have probably run that in 5:15 or better,” Roberts said. Karianne Zollman placed fourth in the javelin with a toss of 92’4”.

The boys fared well also. “Raymond Seal took second in the pole vault, beating his PR (Personal Record) by a foot. He went 11 feet. He’s setting at second in the league right now,” Roberts said.

Joseph didn’t field a full team because of prom, and other members left early with parents for the prom. “We didn’t do anything in the second half of the meet,” Roberts said.

The Lady Eagles’ 20-point score placed them 14th in a field of 23 women’s teams. The Joseph men scored 8 points, placing them 21st among 22 men’s teams.

Joseph athletes also competed last week in the Baker Relays, held April 10 at Baker City. Highlights for the Eagles that day included Zollman’s javelin throw of 98’10”, good for fourth place, and a fifth-place finish in the sprint medley relay for four Joseph girls.
