On Sunday, clocks to spring forward

Published 12:09 pm Tuesday, March 3, 2015

This coming Sunday, March 8, clocks will be moved forward one hour as Daylight Saving Time (DST) kicks in. The official time to adjust clocks is at 2 a.m. Sunday morning, and DST change will remain in effect until Nov. 1.

Tracking the history of Daylight Savings Time in the United States is not a simple task. Benjamin Franklin first suggested the idea in 1784, President Woodrow Wilson first signed legislation to implement it in 1918, the Uniform Time Act was adopted by Congress in 1966, and several amendments have been added as law since then.

Today, DST begins at 2 a.m. on the second Sunday in March and ends at 2 a.m. on the first Sunday in November.
