ROAD TO TROY BEFORE COURT

Chieftain, May 2, 1935

Many residents of Troy and vicinity appeared before the county court yesterday to press for construction of a road to Troy, the most isolated community in the county. They were asked to help start the project by getting pledges of right of way thru land along the survey from Lost Prairie to the Grande Ronde river. Descriptions of the land will be furnished by County Engineer J.D. Walker and the community will try to do the rest.

The delegation was one of the largest which has been before the court in many months, showing that sentiment has centered on the project and the people are very much in earnest. Judge Edgar Marvin and Commissioners S.A. Blevans and H.O. Harmon were familiar with past discussion and efforts to get the road and sought only how they might help it along.

The men who came out were L. Wilson, Forest Wilson, G.H. Bosley, Allen Utz, Hiram Merry, S.P. Morrison, Fred Shafer, Charles J. Fleming, George D. Boston, Fred Richman, Wayne Macauley, Joe Fridles, Arthur Knight, Dan Finley, George M. Courtney, Harry S. Brown, Evart Richman, Homer Renfrow, Charles Shuman, and Arlo Richman.

A few years ago residents of the district presented a widely signed petition asking that a good road be built from Lost Prairie to Troy, connecting two fertile parts of the county and giving an all-year around outlet to a large district. The county made a survey locating a practical route between the Lost Prairie market road and Troy and there the matter rested. The location has a grade of only about 5 percent, and will give a good road in all seasons.
