Avalanche beacon class slated

Published 11:57 am Tuesday, January 6, 2015

Wallowa Avalanche Center is hosting an avalanche beacon class from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Jan. 10, for ongoing learning lessons at Salt Creek Summit Snopark. No sign-up is necessary.

The center conducts the class regardless of weather, but participants can warm up in the community building. Attendees should bring their own beacon, shovel, and probe. The group will work on beacon practice and shoveling techniques in the snopark area. Get to know your own beacon with lots of practice.

No snowshoes or skis are needed, but good snowboots are essential and possibly gaiters. For those interested in purchasing beacons and shovels, the hosts will have different ones to try. Email director@walllowaavalanchecenter.org for more information.
