County schools’ enrollment down slightly

At least by unofficial tallies, Wallowa County student enrollment trended slightly downward for the 2014-2015 school year. The unofficial countywide student total early in this school year is 850 as compared to last September’s enrollment of 883.

Enterprise schools showed a total of 382, down from last year’s 405. The school’s largest class is seventh grade with 37 students, while the smallest class in kindergarten with 21 students. The school plans to graduate 30 students this year including four foreign exchange students.

Wallowa schools total 230 students, losing seven from last year’s total. The elementary school totals 135 students while grades 7-12 total 95 students. The school plans to graduate 14 students this year

Sherri Kilgore, superintendent and grades 7-12 principal of the Joseph School District reported a total of 234 students, including three students from Imnaha. The district had 238 students at this time last year. Both the kindergarten and first grade had the largest classes at 27 students each. The senior class had the smallest number at 12. Kilgore reported the school has no foreign exchange students, down from last year’s total of four.

Troy boasted a 33 percent increase over last year, increasing from three to four students with one student each in grades K, 2, 5 and 6.
