The Hayes brothers stock car racing team – Jerry and James Hayes and crew chief Brian Finch – placed 11th out of 13 entries at the Wenatchee (Wash.) Super Oval last weekend. Spokesman for the team, Jerry Hayes, said, “We didn’t meet our expectations but we still had fun.”
The team started practicing at the track early Saturday morning and had a couple of issues crop up. One of them was the handling of the car and the other was a lack of power. “We fixed the handling issue before the race but couldn’t get the power up. It kind of caught us off guard. We thought it might have been the change in elevation,” Jerry said.
The race itself was uneventful with only one yellow flag in the 75-lap competition.
A highlight of the Hayes team’s trip was when the TI Company (a business and remodel construction business) owned by Troy and Tillie Canton of Boise presented the team with a “moving up” plaque and a hundred dollars for their performance at the Hermiston race last month. The Hayes team came from the back of the field to place ninth in the end.
Next up for the team is the final race of the year, the Yakima Speedway Fall Classic, Oct. 3-4.
