Tyrell Robinson leaves Ducks

The transfer turnstile has been spinning since the Ducks played the spring game on May 3.

Tyrell Robinson is the latest player to be granted a release from Oregon. The sophomore linebacker plans to transfer and play at another school.

“I appreciate and love everything Oregon has taught me but God has another plan for me,” Robinson

Oregon announced last Friday that linebacker Eddie Heard Jr., a junior college transfer, will join the program this summer with three years of eligibility remaining.

Robinson’s twin brother, Tyree Robinson, is still expected to compete for the starting job at strong safety for the Ducks in 2014. The versatile 6-4, 200-pound athlete utilized his redshirt last season while watching seniors Brian Jackson and Avery Patterson.

“I’m just glad I’m able to get out there,” Tyree Robinson said after finishing the spring game with four tackles and an interception. “Just go, let them unleash me and let me make plays. Last year, watching my brother play, I didn’t really have a chance to prove myself. I think the coaches can see I’m ready. I keep working hard to get better every day.”

Both of the Robinsons were four-star recruits out of San Diego’s Abraham High, where they were stars in football and basketball.

Last season as a true freshman, Tyrell Robinson played in nine games and finished with 12 tackles. Last month a misdemeanor harassment case against Tyree Robinson was dismissed in Eugene Municipal Court when his female accuser failed to show up for the trial.

Oregon is deep at all of the linebacker spots. Tyrell Robinson was behind senior Derrick Malone and junior Rahim Cassell on the weak side.

The 6-4, 240-pound Heard will add depth at defensive end/outside linebacker for first-year Oregon defensive coordinator Don Pellum after producing 23 tackles, 7.0 tackles for loss and 4.0 sacks over 11 games at Laney College.

Heard will join Oregon’s 21-man 2014 recruiting class, which includes junior college transfer Tui Talia, a defensive end who participated in spring practices, as well as incoming freshmen Jimmie Swain (OLB), Austin Maloata (DE) and Justin Hollins (DE).

According to 247Sports, the Ducks also have a “hard commitment” from Davis Miyashiro-Saipaia. The 6-2, 285-pound offensive lineman from Honolulu could be added to the team if he is able to qualify academically for enrollment at UO.

Since the conclusion of spring practice, backup quarterbacks Jake Rodrigues (San Diego State) and Damion Hobbs (Utah State) have announced they are transferring from Oregon to play at Mountain West schools.

Incoming freshman quarterback Morgan Mahalak and most of Oregon’s newcomers plan to arrive on campus by June 23 to begin classes and summer workouts.
