LONG BEACH — A neighbor-versus-neighbor dispute in Long Beach at about noon Monday erupted into an armed standoff with police. One man was transported to the Ilwaco emergency room with shotgun wounds.

At of 12:40 p.m. Monday, the shooter is in his mobile-home residence at about Washington and 12th Street N in Long Beach. Witnesses at the scene report that he said to them he would rather die than come out and be arrested.

There is no immediate word on the condition of the wounded resident. Scanner traffic during his transport to Ocean Beach Hospital indicated some initial difficulty finding a blood pressure.

A Life-Flight helicopter left from OBH at 12:55 p.m., with another helicopter waiting to land. “I’ve never seen them backed up like this,” a witness said on the police scanner.

Bystanders at His Supper Table nutrition service in north Long Beach reported hearing multiple gunshots just after noon.

Motorists and pedestrians should stay well away from the normally quiet residential area until authorities give the all-clear. The impacted area is roughly from Oregon Street to the west and encompasses 10th Street to 15th Street N.

Officers armed with rifles and other tactical gear are at the scene in force, with more than a dozen vehicles rushing north through Long Beach during the busy lunch hour, as the town is packed with tourists and spring-break traffic. Responding agencies include Long Beach Police, the Pacific County Sheriff’s Office, Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife officers and at least one federal officer.

This story is breaking and will be updated as additional information is obtained.
