Although the 10-man-strong Enterprise/Joseph wrestling team, overall, did not perform as well as it has been performing according to head coach Jed Stone, seniors Matthew Staigle (195 lbs.) and Wyatt Warnock (220 lbs.) of that team continued to dominate during the 37-year-old JoHi Invitational Wrestling Tournament held last Friday and Saturday in Joseph.

Staigle pinned Clay Duckworth of Crane in the second round of the 195-lb. championship match, while Warnock outpointed Michael Casey, also of Crane, 10-3, in the championship round at 220 lbs. For the season, Staigle now boasts a 16-2 mark. In the 16 matches Warnock has battled in this year, he only has experienced defeat once.

Twenty teams, including one from California, participated in the two-day mat-fest, with Ent/Jos placing fifth with 118 points and cross-county Wallowa with two wrestlers performing on the mats tallying two points.

Winning the tournament with 222 points was Culver; followed by Crane (154 points), McLoughlin (136 points), and Riverside (131.5).

Not competing for the Outlaws because of injury was Brock Hickman (138 lbs.), while not suiting up for other approved reasons were Lars Skovlin (113 pounds) and Tristan Morehouse (195 lbs.).

Six additional members of Stones squad placed and earned team points for Enterprise/Joseph.

Daniel Kohlhepp, in the tough 285-pound weight class where the two finalists had only one loss each for the season prior to their JoHi championship match, pinned Imbler wrestler Cain Stellings in the first round to claim third place at JoHi. In so doing Kohlhepp upped his personal won-loss record for the season to 10-4.

Kyle Roepke, at 152 pounds, was decisioned by a 7-1 score in a third place loss to McLoughlins Blake Yensen, dropping Roepke to fourth place in the tournament and his overall season record to 11-4.

Also placing for EHS/JHS were fifth place finisher Jared Wilcox at 160 pounds, and sixth place finishers Nate Anton (106 lbs.), Raymond Seal (138 lbs.), and Daniel Parker (170 lbs.).

Although less than pleased with his teams performance, Enterprise/Joseph Coach Stone is optimistic his team has time to correct its mistakes in upcoming weeks.

Wallowa entered two wrestlers in the competition, Patrick Rummell (138 lbs.) and Alex Coutant (160 lbs.) Although he did not place, Rummell, a senior, won two matches and scored two points for the Cougar squad. Coutant, a junior, was eliminated from the tournament with two successive losses, but did win an exhibition match held later, said Wallowa Coach Mel Byers.
