An estimated gathering of 75 trap shooters ages 8 through 80 are expected to arrive Sunday morning, Dec. 8, when the Wallowa Rod & Gun Club holds a meat shoot at their clubhouse off of Lower Diamond Lane, roughly three miles northwest of the city of Wallowa.
A spokesperson for the gun club, Mary Johnson, says more novice shooters than professional shooters are expected to participate in the competition slated to begin at 9 a.m.
While shotgun shooters are outside trying to fell enough clay pigeons to earn prizes such as hams and bacon, or even bricks of cheese, inside the warm clubhouse breakfasts and lunches will be served, games for kids will be played, and cards will be dealt in friendly competition.
Johnson stresses the family atmosphere that accompanies a Wallowa Rod & Gun Club meat shoot.
