To the Editor:

In the Oct. 22 Chieftain you had a picture of the Wallowa High School gymnasium and the old white grade school. I attended that old white grade school from the first through the eighth grade. First four grades on first floor fifth through eighth on second floor.

Each room had a large stove as the building didnt have a central heating system. The floor we oiled to keep dirt down. I played a lot of basketball in the gymnasium.

I dont remember when the old grade school building burned, but it made some fire close to those oiled floors.
