Donald Prescott Hubbard, 86, died peacefully with loved ones at his side June 6, 2013.
He was born on April 7,1927. He married the love of his life, Dorothy Palmer in 1947. They married when he returned from service as a Merchant Mariner in World War II. Together they raised six children in his hometown of Encinitas, Calif.
In 1946, he started Hubbard Contracting with an old truck, a wheelbarrow and a shovel. It grew into a well-established company that installed a major portion of the water and sewer lines for northern San Diego County.
He got his pilots license in the 1960s and spent most of his recreational time flying far and wide for adventure and business.
In the mid-1980s he came to Eastern Oregon and fell in love with area. He started the Hubbard Ranch, which operated in Imnaha, Enterprise and Baker City.
He is survived by his wife; children and their spouses, Donald Hubbard Jr., Diana Collins, Susan and Sam Blalock, Sandra and Dennis Lee, Bonnie and Jeff Holmes and James and Janis Hubbard; 17 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; sister Betty Hubbard Crimi and brother-in-law Robert Crimi.
He was well loved and highly respected for his kindness, fun-spirit, sense of adventure and wisdom.
A memorial service will be at the San Dieguito United Methodist Church in Encinitas, Calif., at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 29, to celebrate and honor his life.
In lieu of flowers the family respectfully suggests making a donation to either Alzheimers Research Foundation or Wallowa Memorial Hospital Foundation.
Interment will be at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in San Diego, Calif.
