The members of the Wallowa Volunteer Fire Department, 14 strong, served an estimated 200 people and, after expenses, raised about $2,000 at a mid-February Saturday night oyster and steak feed at the Wallowa Senior Center.
Proceeds from that Feb. 16 event will go to the fire department, which receives $1,500, and to a $500 scholarship for a new Wallowa High School graduate.
After a brief hiatus following a long history of annual oyster feeds in Wallowa first conducted by the American Legion and later by the Friends of the Wallowa School Foundation, this was the second oyster and steak feed put on by the volunteer fire department.
Fire Chief Tom Baird says the Wallowa Volunteer Fire Department is committed to making the oyster/steak feed an annual event.
