More information could come to public light next Wednesday about the May 10, 2012, death of Lawrence Allen Mock, the 26-year-old Wallowa man who was found dead from knife wounds after business hours at Lears Main Street Pub & Grill, in Enterprise.
On March 20, accused murderer Michael Trenton Gaston, of Enterprise, will, by Oregon Revised Statute 147.512, be given the opportunity to speak in regard to the plea agreement under which hes slated for sentencing at the conclusion of whats scheduled as a two-hour proceeding.
Gaston is the only known witness of what transpired early that Thursday morning last May between himself and Mock, and whether he wishes to speak about the event is not known.
Another component of plea sentencing hearings, as noted under the same ORS, opens the door for violent crime victims and their families to speak on the record.
Another Oregon law, ORS 137.013, outlines what can be covered in this portion of plea sentencing. The victim (in this case deceased) or the victims next of kin has the right to reasonably express any views concerning the crime, the person responsible, the impact of the crime on the victim, and the need for restitution and compensatory fine.
Since his arrest and subsequent grand jury indictment May 17, 2012, Gaston has remained in custody in Union County jail in La Grande. On Dec. 19, Gaston was in Enterprise briefly to plead not guilty to the charge of murder.
