LETTER: School completely unaccommodating

To the Editor:

At the beginning of the school year, I went to make sure all was okay for my son starting his senior year at EHS. I was told by the principal that my son could not start because he was 18. He had to find an alternative way to get his diploma. Supposedly, there are regulations both at state and federal levels. I have tried finding these supposed regulations, and guess what? Cant find them. I did ask the principal if he had these regulations and he could not produce them.

For the three previous years, my son went to alternative education. He hasnt been a perfect student but he was never kicked out or expelled out of the high school. He choose alt ed for personal reasons. By the recommendations of earlier teachers, he repeated a grade. He would be graduating at 19 years.

I have talked with other parents who were told the same thing by the principal. We have all been lucky enough to find places where our kids can get their diplomas, unfortunately these have been mostly online. My kid will never get to go to his senior prom or even graduate with his class.

All I want is a straight answer with proof. I keep getting the round a round from the principal. Back up your words!!

When did being 18 stop you from finishing high school with your classmates?
