Emergency grazing period extended

A two-month extension for emergency grazing on Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) acres, announced last week by the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture, will enable grazers to use qualifying ground until Nov. 30. Emergency grazing was previously set to end Sept. 30.
Wallowa County CRP acres became eligible for emergency grazing last week. Producers who want to graze CRP ground must file a request with the Wallowa County Farm Service Agency office. To make an appointment, phone 541-426-4521. All requests must be approved by the County Committee.
Producers will be assessed a 10 percent payment reduction for any acres that are grazed. An additional CRP rental rate reduction will not be incurred for this additional time.
Acreage enrolled in the Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program (CREP) is not eligible for emergency grazing.
