Ten-year-old Happy Garden Restaurant, Wallowa Countys only Chinese restaurant, has been operating under new ownership since late July. Located just west of Safeway, along Highway 82 in Enterprise, new owners of the eatery are Alma and Wan Li, formerly of Portland.

Although a few burgers, fries, and salads are added to the menu, the vast preponderance of listings include Chinese seafood, pork, chicken, beef, and vegetable dishes along with appetizers, combination dinners, and family-style dinners.

Wan Li previously worked at Chinese restaurants in Portland and Washington state. Drawing Alma and Wan Li to Wallowa County, Alma said, was their personal friendship with the local restaurants seller, Jian Dang Zhen. Zhen operated the Chinese eatery for five years, the same length of time the Happy Gardens original owner, Ming Li, owned the business before selling it to his uncle.

Alma and Wan Li have two children, Brice, 6, and Victor, 5.
