PENDLETON? The Enterprise Outlaws came into Wednesdays state quarterfinal girls basketball match-up with Riddle expecting a showdown with Irish wing Pele Gianotti.
The 6-foot multi-talented sophomore was a game-time scratch with an illness, though.
What followed was a contest even Gianotti would have struggled to keep under control as the Outlaws dominated the Irish 64-22 to advance to the semifinals on Friday.
Just 11 days prior, the Outlaws (21-5) were feeling a bit of heartbreak on the very same court at Pendleton Convention Center after a loss to Pilot Rock in the district championship.
Wednesdays Player of the Game, Shelby Graning, said that experience has strengthened the teams resolve to bring home a state trophy.
We basically came in here telling ourselves we werent going to lose,?she said. (At districts)?we kind of just came in expecting we would do better than we did and so it helped us realize now that we have to come in with a different attitude.
Graning finished the game with 14 points, six rebounds and seven steals. The Outlaws had 24 steals total.
Enterprise more than doubled Riddles shot attempts (72-34)?and hit five times more frequently (31-7).
Riddle was paced by a trio of girls with five points each.
Enterprise goes up against Scio (26-2 overall; 14-0 in league) Friday night in a semifinal match at Pendleton. Game time is 6:30 p.m.
