Beulah Rose Robirts (Perry) Sasser of Enterprise, known by friends as “Penny”, died Jan. 19, 2012, after a long battle with cancer.
She was born in Winnemucca, Nev., to Dorsey James and Priscilla Mary (Lucas) Robirts. They moved around a lot, but she was raised with her sister Mary Frances and brother Ernest James mainly in Drewsey, where their father worked as a bronc buster.
On June 21, 1956, Penny married Edwin T. Perry. together they had three children, Theodore, Dorseia and Earl.
They lived in the Vale area and later moved to Wallowa, where they raised their kids. Edwin died March 4, 1980.
After his death, Penny went to work as a CNA at Wallowa Memorial Hospital. While working at the hospital she met Bunk Sasser, who had also been widowed. They were married on Dec. 26, 1981.
Together they went to barber school, and then came home to open the E & B Valley Barbers shop in Enterprise.
Penny was known for her hugs and love of children. She enjoyed weekend drives with Bunk, crocheting, writing poetry, pretty hankies and spending time with family and friends. She loved God and enjoyed reading the Bible.
Penny is survived by Bunk, her husband of 30 years; sister Francie Barclay, Lebanon; brother and sister-in-law Jim and Harriett Robirts, Jacksonville, Fla.; daughter Dorseia Perry, Enterprise; sons and their spouses, Ted and Toya Perry, Richland, Wash., and Earl and Dana Perry, Canby; step-daughter and her husband, Pam and Don Kiser of Joseph; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Josephine Anderson; and many nieces and nephew.
She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband Edwin Perry, stepson Tim Sasser and step-granddaughter Jaime Homan.
A celebration of her life was held Saturday, Jan. 28, at the Bollman Funeral Home in Enterprise, followed by interment at the Enterprise Cemetery.
