Wallowa County lost many residents, and those formerly of the local area, during 2011. Following are the deaths reported in the Chieftain by the year’s end.

Dale Marvin Miller, 85, of Monmouth, a native of Enterprise, died Sept. 20, 2010, from complications following a stroke.

Neddie Mitchell died Nov. 26, 2010, in Enterprise at age 66.

Donna B. Eitland of Campbelltown, Pa., a former county resident, died Dec. 7, 2010, at the age of 77.

Sherry Thornton, Enterprise, died Dec. 12, 2010, at Wallowa Memorial Hospital at the age of 65.

Alvin “Andy” Pratt, a native of Wallowa County, died in a hospital in Renton, Wash., at the age of 87 on Dec. 25, 2010.

Violet Nadine Wilson Shirley, a native of Wallowa County, died at her home in Salem Dec. 25, 2010, at age 90.

Paul Anthony Henderson, 61, Wallowa, died in Enterprise Dec. 29, 2010.

Leon Norman “Bill” Fisher, former longtime mayor of Wallowa, died Jan. 1, 2011, in La Grande at age 83.

Vivian Bernice Ellen Fields, a retired school teacher who lived in Wallowa County, died Jan. 3, 2011, at the age of 78.

Beverly Putnam, a former resident of Wallowa County, died in Salem Jan. 16, 2011, at the age of 101 years. 

Robert “Bob” Goebel of Enterprise died Jan. 19, 2011, at the age of 89.

Beula M. Himelwright Sager, 92, rural Enterprise, died Jan. 19, 2011.

Kelsie Findley Makin died at his Enterprise home at the age of 88 on Jan. 25, 2011.

Georgia E. Cameron, 76, of Adrian, a former Wallowa County resident, died in Boise, Idaho, on Jan. 27, 2011.

Mabel Anna Kunz of rural Joseph died Jan. 28, 2011, at the age of 98, at the Wallowa Valley Care Center.

Mary L. Bryant, 77, of Wallowa died of a heart attack Jan. 30, 2011, while in her motor home in Baja, Calif.

Roger Arliss Zollman, a former mayor of Joseph, died Jan. 30, 2011, at the age of 79.

Maxine (Max) Boggan Botts of Asotin, a former Troy ranch resident, died Feb. 2, 2011, at age 92.

James William Maier, a resident of Joseph, died Feb. 2, 2011 at the age of 84 in Enterprise.

Stanley Allen Aschenbrenner of Enterprise died of cancer Feb. 6, 2011, at age 57.

Roma R. Belsher of Milwaukie, a native of Joseph, died Feb. 6, 2011, at the age of 83.

Frances J. (Murphy) Norton of Lostine died Feb. 11, 2011 at the age of 67.

Jo-Ann Lathrop of Enterprise died Feb. 12, 2011, at the age of 75.

Myrna Gail Sabey, 68, of Cove died Feb. 12, 2011, in Boise, Idaho.

Eva Jeannette (Neeley) Stevens, 88, died Feb. 15, 2011, at the Alpine House in Joseph.

Jimmie Dale “Jim” Bane of Enterprise, died at the age of 85 in Enterprise on Feb. 16, 2011.

Dorothy (Dot) Jean Juve, 91, died at home on Alder Slope on Feb. 17, 2011, surrounded by her family.

Brandi Lynel Tippet of the Salem area, a native of Enterprise, died Feb. 19, 2011, at the age of 36 because of an automobile accident.

Merton Sylvin Wade of Enterprise, the grandson of Wallowa County pioneers, died Feb. 19, 2011, at age 89.

Loraine F. DeRosso, 82, of Wallowa, died Feb. 20, 2011, in Tigard.

Emma Louisa Crow of Boise, Idaho, a resident of Lostine most of her life, died Feb. 22, 2011, at age 98.  

Josephine M. “Jo” Whitaker, 86, a native of Wallowa County, died Feb. 23, 2011, in Kennewick, Wash.

Joy “Avery” McCoy of Irrigon, formerly of Joseph, died Feb. 25, 2011, at the age of 79.

Philip Raymond Morgan, 91, a longtime resident of Coos Bay and former veterinarian in Enterprise, died Feb. 26, 2011, in Seattle, Wash.

Dorothy I. Dutton, 92, died March 2, 2011, at home in Enterprise.

Shirley Marcilee Sannar, 87, of Pendleton died March 3, 2011, at St. Anthony’s Hospital.

Bessie Leona Scott, known to everyone as Leona, died March 4, 2011, at the Wallowa Valley Care Center in Enterprise.

Jerry Kenneth Moffit, 60, of Lostine, died March 5, 2011, in Las Vegas, Nev., while attending the NASCAR races with friends.

Zane Burke, 49, of Sandy died on March 7, 2011.

Jacqueline “Jackie” McFetridge Goodman, 78, of Joseph died at Wallowa Memorial Hospital March 7, 2011, after a battle with cancer.

Patricia Ann “Pat” Kilts 82, of rural Joseph, died March 11, 2011.

Roy Robert Sines, 88, of La Grande, a former Wallowa district forest ranger, died Thursday, March 17, 2011, at a local care facility. 

Dr. William Douglas “Doug” Morgan, Sr., 93, died March 19, 2011, at his home in Imnaha.

Opal J. Gentry, 89, of Milton-Freewater died March 22, 2011 at her daughter’s home in Rainier.

Janice M. Lewis of Milton-Freewater died March 23, 2011, at the Providence St. Mary Medical Center in Walla Walla at the age of 68 years.

Laddie Thomas Snodderly, 76, died in his home in Portland March 23, 2011.

Sidney Charles “Chuck” West of Pendleton died at age 67 at his home of cancer on March 24, 2011.

Barbara Jean Bailey of Joseph died March 30, 2011, in Enterprise at age 84.

Bonnie Anne Lund-Jewart of Allyn, Wash., the mother of two Wallowa County residents, died April 1, 2011, at age 72.

Glenna Joyce Magera, age 71, died in Enterprise Sunday, April 3, 2011, with her family by her side.

Arlen Edward Delyria, 79, of Enterprise, died April 11, 2011, at the Wallowa Valley Care Center in Enterprise.

Juanita P. (Steele) Huff, 87, died April 12, 2011, in Wallowa Memorial Hospital after an extended illness.

Philip Ray Stonebrook, M.D., of Joseph died April 13, 2011, at age 67 in a kayaking accident while visiting a friend in Atlanta, Ga.

Neil Eugene Morse, 86, of Lewiston died at Guardian Angel Homes April 15, 2011.

John Howard Meyer, 86, a former Enterprise resident, died April 16, 2011, at his home in Canby, with his wife Phyllis by his side.

James L. “Jim” Patterson, 70, of Desert Center, Calif., a former resident of Enterprise, died April 16, 2011, at Desert Regional Hospital in Palm Springs, Calif.

John Williams Freels, a lifelong resident of Wallowa County, died April 20, 2011, at age 94.

Erma Tippett, a Wallowa County native and long-time Joseph restaurant owner, died April 20, 2011 in Asotin at the age of 97.

Velma L. (Trump) Hescock died April 22, 2011, at the age of 94 at the Wallowa Valley Care Center in Enterprise.

Jeanette Rae Reynolds, 69, a former Wallowa County resident, died suddenly April 24, 2011, at Hot Springs County Memorial Hospital in Thermopolis, Wyo.

Ronald Jay Templeton of Aloha died April 24, 2011, at the age of 90.

Donald D. Widner, 72, of Joseph died Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at his home.

Lynetta Louise Horton Stracener, 66, died May, 7, 2011, in Maricopa, Ariz.

Gweneth Mae “Gwen” Bane of Enterprise died May 8, 2011, in Enterprise.

Donald G. “Curly” Imsland, 92, of Pendleton died May 9, 2011 at his home. 

Monica Lynn Royse of Enterprise died at the age of 46 May 11, 2011, after a 12-year battle with breast cancer.

Alan Dale Victor, a lifelong resident of Wallowa, died May 10, 2011, at the age of 88.

Robert (Bob) H. Stein, 83, of La Grande, a former resident of Enterprise, died May 11, 2011, at Oregon Veterans’ Home in The Dalles.

Robert Harold Brown, Sr., 73, died May 18, 2011, at Good Shepherd Medical Center in Hermiston.

Agnes May Hepburn, a native of Wallowa County, died May 27, 2011, in Bend at the age of 97.

Phyllis Pearl Schlatter, 77, of Lostine, died May 27, 2011, in Enterprise.

James T. “Tom” Gilmore, 87, died June 4, 2011, at home in Enterprise.

William O. “Bill” Reid of Sublimity, a former Wallowa County resident, died Saturday, June 4, 2011, at age 91.

James Louis Schiefelbein, 36, of Vancouver, Wash., who spent time on his family’s ranch near Enterprise, died June 5, 2011, in a logging accident in Skamania County, Wash.

Helen Lee Ward, 81, of Lebanon, died on Sunday, June 5, at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Corvallis.

Merle Williams, 85, of Hermiston, formerly of Wallowa County, died Tuesday, June 7, 2011, at Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland, Wash.

Gary Joe Beach, 66, a native of Wallowa County, died June 10, 2011, at Valley Vista in Sandpoint, Idaho.

Eldon Eugene (Gene) Chupp, age 82, of Imnaha died June 18, 2011, in Kennewick, Wash.

Michael Ray Shirley, 59, of Joseph died June 18, 2011, at Wallowa Memorial Hospital after battling esophageal cancer.

Marilyn Jean Wood of Lostine died June 18, 2011, at the age of 71.

Tom Uchison, 69, of Enterprise, died June 20, 2011, in Tucson, Ariz.

Lee Harrison Bundy, 90, of Lostine died June 23, 2011, at Wallowa Memorial Hospital.

Bailey Marie Morgan of Pocatello, Idaho, a 4-month-old infant, died June 23, 2011, from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. 

Ethel Louise Miller of Spanaway, Wash., a former Enterprise resident, died June 24, 2011, with her family at her side.

James Lowell “Jim” Probert, a longtime Wallowa County rancher, died July 4, 2011, at the age of 77 in Enterprise.

Helen Wilena Weaver, 88, a lifelong Wallowa County resident, died Friday, July 8, 2011, at the Wallowa Valley Care Center in Enterprise.

Ila Beckwith, 93, of Salkum, a Wallowa County native, died July 11, 2011, at home.  

James Larkin “Larry” Shaver, 70, died July 12, 2011, at his home in Enterprise after a long illness. He was 70 years old.

John “Jack” J. Gregory, a former Union County rancher, died Tuesday, July 19, 2011, at Wallowa Valley Care Center in Enterprise at age 97.

Cecile Alice Lay, 87, a lifelong resident of Enterprise, died July 25, 2011, in Enterprise.

Jason Bernard Werst, 40, of Nampa, Idaho, a former Wallowa County resident, died of leukemia Oct. 30, 2011, at home.

Sandra J. Hunter of Bend died October 31, 2011, at the age of 66.

William McCormack, 90, of Milton-Freewater, formerly of Enterprise, died Nov. 4, 2011, at home in Milton-Freewater.

Rubye Dorsey of Portland, a Wallowa County native, died Nov. 8, 2011, at the age of 92.

Roy Carter, of Milton-Freewater, a former Wallowa County resident, died Nov. 10, 2011, at the age of 81 years.

Phyllis Jean Lovell, 71, of Enterprise, died Nov. 14, 2011, in Walla Walla, Wash.

Margery L. Prince, 96, a lifelong resident of Wallowa County, died Nov.14, 2011, at a care facility in The Dalles.

Shirley L. Barton of Battle Ground, Wash., died Nov. 18, 2011, just short of her 84th birthday.

David Bradley Bliss of Joseph died Nov. 18, 2011, in his home after a long illness at age 71.

Norma Maxwell Gray, 96, who grew up in the Imnaha area, died Nov. 21, 2011, at her home in Shingle Springs, Calif.

Gilbert J. “Gib” Cox of DeMoines, Wash., a Wallowa County native, died Nov. 23, 2011, at age 88.

Robert Cecil “Bob” Chrisman, 73, of Wallowa, died at Wallowa Memorial Hospital in Enterprise, Sunday, Dec. 4, 2011, after a long battle with prostate cancer.  

Lois M. Rambo, 95, of Walla Walla, Wash., and formerly of Milton-Freewater, died Dec. 10, 2011, at the Walla Walla General Hospital at the age of 95 years with her family by her side.

Daniel Ray Wortman, 64, of Ukiah, died Friday, Dec. 16, 2011, at the home of his sister in Union.

Tayte Clark of Wallowa died Dec. 19, 2011, at age 3.

Miklos “Mike” Vali, of Wallowa Lake, died Monday, Dec. 19, 2011 at the age of 73.

Robert Jay “Tex” Miller of Enterprise died Dec. 20, 2011, at age 86.

Cora Mae O’Connor, a native of Enterprise, died Dec. 23, 2011, at a Portland hospital, at age 87.
