The Enterprise Outlaws girl’s basketball team dropped the first contest of the season against the host Wallowa Cougars by the score 41-40 in what head coach Mike Crawford described as, “a roller coaster type of game.”

“We needed 10 more seconds in that game,” Crawford said. “We had the lead at the end of the first three quarters. We were up and down and I attribute that to the way Wallowa played and to it being the first game of the season.”

The Outlaws used the Wallowa game as a tune-up, and came out firing on all cylinders in their next two games played over the weekend at the Ione tournament against the Riverside Pirates and Ione Cardinals. The Outlaws stopped the Pirates by a score of 43-21 on Friday, and carried their winning ways through Saturday grounding the Cardinals 60-51.

“We looked a lot different in Ione. We’re improving every single game. I’m ecstatic about the way the team is playing. The game against Ione was phenomenal,” Crawford said.

Shelby Graning was high scorer for the Outlaws in the Wallowa game with 11 points. High scorer for the Outlaws against Riverside was Marta Stangel who posted 17 points. Individual stats for the Ione game were unavailable before Chieftain press time.
