4-H judging teams do well at U of I

A four-member Wallowa County 4-H judging team, consisting of Calli Miller, Sally Mary Blair, Whitman Blair and Sonora Blair placed third out of 14 teams competing Oct. 8 during Ag Day Invitational Livestock Judging Contest at the University of Idaho in Moscow, Idaho.

In all, 16 county participants formed four teams, which placed third, seventh, eighth and ninth in the judging competition.

Special recognition was given to the top five places in each age division at the awards banquet sponsored by the Block and Bridle Ag Club at U of I. Aspen Birkmaier placed first in the junior division, while Anna Rinehart placed first in the intermediate division.

Other teams were: Aspen Birkmaier, Chloe Birkmaier, Karli Bedard and Madison Plew, which placed seventh; Anna Rinehart, Clair Beck, Bryce Melville and Kobe Ketscher, eighth; and Zyler Hermens, Deidre Schreiber, Avery Bedard and Zane Hermens, ninth.

“The group represented Wallowa County very well this year. This is a tough contest, where they are competing against teams from Idaho and Washington,” said Wallowa County OSU Extension Agent Debi Schreiber.

After the contest, members continued to celebrate Ag Days by attending the Idaho Vandals football game and BBQ.
