WALLOWA – Wallowa High School students anticipate the announcement of the 2011 homecoming king and queen at the bonfire tonight (Thursday, Oct. 20) at 6:30 p.m.

This year’s WHS homecoming court includes seniors Baylee Shelton and Dusty McDaniel, juniors Effie Burns and Wesley Conrad, sophomores Alex Chrisman and Aaron Wallace, and freshmen Kristyn Young and Gareth Murray. This year, student body president Skylar Waters will crown the next WHS homecoming king and queen.

All this week students have shown their school spirit through different homecoming activities. On Sunday, students decorated the hallways of WHS with their colors of black and orange. On Wednesday each grade level dressed up in garb from the ’50s to the ’80s. On “Grubby Day” (today), students prepare for even more homecoming festivities. The senior class will whitewash the “W” on top of Tick Hill in Wallowa. Juniors build the structure for the bonfire. The sophomore class decorates the Beth Johnson Room for the dance on Friday. Freshmen design and place posters in the gym and on the football field to cheer the WHS teams competing this week.

The Cougars football team won’t be the only squad representing WHS this Friday afternoon either. Cross-country runners are scheduled to compete at the Wildhorse Invitational in Pendleton at 3 p.m., and the Lady Cougars volleyball team will serve against Powder at 4 p.m.

The concluding event in the weeklong celebration is the Homecoming Dance held Friday, Oct. 21, from 9 p.m. to midnight at the Beth Johnson Room at WHS.
