Donna Dixon

May 6, 1914 – Oct. 9, 2011

Donna L. Dixon, age 97, of Enterprise, died Oct. 9, 2011, at a Nampa, Idaho, care center. 

She was born Donna L. Cook in Pendleton on May 6, 1914. Her family moved to Nyssa when she was in the first grade and she graduated from high school there.

She attended college at Eastern Oregon Teachers College in La Grande for two years, earning her teacher’s certificate. She got her first teaching job in Enterprise, where she met and married Jack Dixon in 1938. She taught in either the Pratt School or Enterprise grade school for 32 years and retired at age 62. 

After retirement, she and Jack enjoyed skiing, hiking, tennis and some fun trips to gamble at Reno and Jackpot, Nev., and Wildhorse near Pendleton. She loved playing her organ and was an avid reader. 

She was preceded in death by her husband of 73 years, Jack M. Dixon, and is survived by her daughters and their husbands, Jackie and Dave Dykstra of Nampa, Idaho, and Carol and Keith Barnes of Cornwall, United Kingdom.
