David Kevin Nickell

David Kevin Nickell, 50, a resident of Joseph in his youth, died Sept. 17, 2011, at his home in Casper, Wyo.

Kevin was born in Pocatello, Idaho, to the late William Ray Nickell Sr. and Lavada Joy Thorn.

He went to grade and middle school in Joseph during 1969 and 1971, and he always wanted to move back to Wallowa County as he was an avid outdoorsman and loved the country. Several of his family members live in Wallowa County, including his mother.

Kevin joined the U.S Navy in 1977 and served on the USS Enterprise carrier. He left the service in 1983 after six years.

Kevin was a gentle giant with a heart as big as can be.

He married Nicole Cummins Dec. 31, 2003, and became stepfather to four children, Sarah Cummins-Wentz, Bethany Hudson, Emily Pass, and Cory Cummins, along with eight grandchildren.

Kevin leaves behind his wife Nicole, mother Joy Thorn, brothers Bill Nickell and Keith Nickell, sisters Debbie Campbell, Lisa Kincaid and Lori Greenway and his stepchildren and grandchildren. He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, as well as their children.
