A new sales record was set at Wallowa Countys FFA and 4-H auction Saturday evening, when bidders paid a total of $183,082 for 146 market animals as a finale to the 2011 Wallowa County Fair.

4-H and FFA youths sold 64 hogs for $54,495, 34 steers for $97,304, 46 lambs for $30,517, one chicken for $300 and one goat for $465.

Last years take was $140,189 total for 138 animals: one chicken, $150; 32 steers, $72,365; 50 lambs, $17,442; and 55 hogs, $50,232. The previous record was $170,901 set in 2008, when only 117 animals were auctioned off.
