Patrick H. Holland, 87, of Salem, a former resident of Enterprise, died Aug. 1, 2011, in Salem following complications from congestive heart failure.

Pat was born in Dawson, N.M., to Patrick and Jessie Holland. After he graduated from high school he joined the family in Salt Lake City, Utah.

When he was 19 he joined the Army Air Corps. During World War II he was stationed in England and flew 35 missions. He was honorably discharged in 1945. He received the Air Medal, Distinguished Flying Cross and the Oak Leaf Cluster for exceptionally meritorious achievement.

Pat was married to Donna Thomas from 1953 to 1969, and they had three children, Patty, Doug and Mike. They moved from Salt Lake City to Salem in 1953. Pat began working for Armpriest Sheet Metal and started his own business, Holland Steel Fabricators, in 1974. He purchased Armpriest, his former employer, in the mid-1980s. In 1966 he received an award from the American Institute of Architects for excellence in his field.

Pat served many years as a volunteer with Marion County Fire District 1 and was named Fireman of the Year in 1968.

In 1981 he married Pamela Jo Hacek. They moved after his retirement in 1991 to Enterprise, where they lived for nine years. He purchased Lin-Lee Kennels in Joseph.

After returning to Salem in 1999, woodworking and caring for his yard became his favorite hobbies.

Survivors include his wife, Pamela Jo Hacek; daughter, Patty Anderson of Portland; sons, Doug of Salem and Mike of Donald; stepson Len Ballstaedt of Brinnon, Wash.; and stepdaughters Connie Kuenzi of Silverton and Theresa Stevens of McMinnville; two brothers, Jack and Don and sister, Betty Jepson, all of Utah; 15 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.

Pat was preceded in death by three sisters, Margie, Marie and Dorothy, and a brother, Robert, who died at birth.

Memorial services were held Friday, Aug. 5, 2011, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Salem. Burial with military honors was held Monday, Aug. 8, at Willamette National Cemetery under the direction of City View Funeral Home.
