WALLOWA LAKE From 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, July 24, Wallowa Lake Go Karts will host a fundraiser for Brandy Starmer, a 15-year-old cancer patient from Wallowa.
During the two-hour fundraiser, people can ride the go-karts for any price that suits them, and the entire amount will be donated to Brandy Starmers family, said Greg Jarman, manager of the business.
Lets rally behind people, Jarman said. He noted that the Lostine community had held a pie auction to help the Starmers a month ago, but he didnt think much had been done for the family at the public level since then.
He said he hoped the July 24 event would re-focus attention on the Starmers and get the ball rolling for other helpful events.
Brandy Starmer, an honor roll student at Wallowa High School about to enter her sophomore year, was diagnosed with brain cancer late in April and underwent surgery only a few days after the diagnosis.
She has already undergone six weeks of radiation treatments and chemotherapy and is due to start another round of these treatments soon.
