Steven Parks, owner of Parks Bronze in Enterprise, confirmed this week that he and his wife, Maria, are close to finalizing details for purchase of the bowling alley and sports lounge in Joseph. The facility closed late this spring.

According to Chieftain files, Dick Reece constructed the first bowling alley in Joseph in 1948, originally starting with four lanes. The alley also included a lunch counter.

The present bowling alley, located at 101 S. Main, is housed in a building originally constructed as a garage. It was converted to a bowling alley in the late 1950s or early 1960s. 

Bowling leagues historically have lasted from 28 to 30 weeks every year and involved 100 or so bowlers.
