Millar has best back nine

WALLOWA Sophomore Pierce Millar finished the Nixyaawii Invitational in second place, only seven shots behind the boys champ, Cole Sajonia of Enterprise.

Millar led the Wallowa High School boys golf team, which combined to take 445 shots. Millar needed only 77 strokes. Senior Tyler Chrisman took 115, junior Chris Swift had 120, Christopher Warnock 133. Chrisman and Warnock parred the 16th hole.

Millar also shot par at the 16th hole. His card featured par at 10 holes and a birdie.

A strong back nine boosted Millar up to second place. He was third at the conclusion of the first half with a 40, just a shot behind Heppners Axel Lofgren. Millar answered with the tournaments best back nine. His 37 tied Sajonia for the top mark.

Meanwhile, junior Shawna Chrisman was fourth in the girls tournament. Her score of 110 ranked only one behind Heppners Jordan Peterson and only two back of Heppners Blake Greenup. Chrisman shot par on two holes.

Senior Taylor Makin shot a 119.
