PENDLETON Wallowa High School junior Chris Swift made the most of his first shot at 18 holes of golf in the Wildhorse Invitational on April 8 in Pendleton. Inclement weather had limited his previous opportunities to practice, but Swift wound up shooting par on two holes and finished the course with 112 strokes. That was his best score, and it tied him with senior Tyler Chrisman as Wallowas best.

I choose one thing to work on at each hole. Swift said. I set a goal and try to exceed it.

Swift enjoyed most of his success on the front nine, where he parred the third hole and the eighth. His final score matched Chrisman for the team lead, while Christopher Warnock shot a 149.

Meanwhile, junior Shawna Chrisman led the Wallowa girls with a 106. She tied Heppners Jordan Peterson for third place at the tournament. They finished 12 shots behind the champion, Lindsey Cutsforth of Heppner, and two behind Echos Alyssa Larramendy.

Wallowa senior Taylor Makin shot a 133 on her first attempt at 18 holes. She parred the fourth hole.

Next, Wallowa golfers will play April 15 in Union.
