NORTH END NEWS: Troy students busy with Battle of the Books, Knowledge Bee and state fitness program

Troy students recently participated in The Annual Battle of the Books. Troy teamed up with Enterprise and played against Joseph, and Wallowa Elementary Schools. Our first- and second-graders made up a hot ticket as they scored the top points and won their round. Winning students were Julian Rich, first grade, and Dylan Farnsworth and Wesley Rich, second grade.

The Battle of the Books is a Jeopardy type game with questions about four books that each team must read. Troy cant divide up the books with so few students, so everyone must read all four books in their age category. The Steelheaders did an awesome job and had fun while doing it.

Last week, Troy Students ventured to Imnaha for the annual Knowledge Bee, a game to test knowledge of 100 items. We had a great time, a super lunch, and had fun with another one-room school. Imnaha will be coming to Troy for a Sports Day on May 18.

On April 15, at our next potluck, the U.S. Forest Service will be hosting an informational meeting. See the calendar for more information.

Students and any other interested parties are going to be participating in Shape Up Across Oregon, an inspirational program developed by Oregon Governors Council on Physical Fitness and Sports. Participants  take an imaginary trip across Oregon by earning mileage for physical activity.

Some of our students have been doing very well academically. Julian Rich, a first-grader, is now doing second grade spelling and second grade math. Our second-graders, Dylan Farnsworth and Wesley Rich, are both in third-grade math. Olivia Farnsworth, a fourth-grader, has been doing advanced work all year in the area of language arts. Trevor Farnsworth, grade six, has moved up a level in math.  More students will be moving up. Great job, students!
