ENTERPRISE Senior Cole Sajonia shot the Oregon Invitationals best individual score, completing the Pumpkin Ridge golf course near Portland on March 28 only six strokes over the par 71. He edged Tyler Jorgensen of Westside Christian High School by two shots for the crown.
The Enterprise team wound up in fifth place with a score of 387, trailing Heppner by 25.
We need some good weather, coach Mike Crawford said.
Despite difficult conditions in North Plains, Sajonia won the individual prize with a strong second half. He had matched Brendon DeHart of Bandon for the lead after the first nine holes. Sajonias card already included a birdie and four pars. He pulled away on the back nine, when he cut three strokes and scored par another seven times. Meanwhile, DeHart slipped to third place on the scoreboard of individuals, though his team finished in first place.
The rest of Enterprises team had its share of moments. Freshman Cody Hopkins scored a birdie and a par, and he completed the course with 100 strokes. Senior Carson Makin tallied par twice, and finished two shots behind Hopkins. Sophomore Dakota Jenkins posted a 108.
Enterprise continued to develop early in the season. Ten days earlier, several of the golfers warmed up at the Heppner Invitational on March 18 in Echo. Makin shot a 97, sophomore John Green scored a 106, Jenkins had a 109, senior Tommy Hill 129, junior Casey Marino 140.
Enterprise also took girls to Echo Hills. Sophomore Jill Morton shot a 117, while freshman McKenna Miller scored a 148.
Next, Enterprise will compete April 1 in Pendleton.
